What is Capoeira?
Capoeira is a Brazilian art form which combines dance, combat, rhythm,
music and acrobatics. Capoeira is a dialog between two players. It is a
conversation through movement which can take on many shades of meaning.
It was created over 400 years ago in Brazil by the burning desire of freedom of the slaves. The African descendants and native Brazilian slaves used this combat method that looked like a dance to free themselves.
Capoeira is a challenging way to develop your skills both physically and mentally and is a healthy way to get in shape.
Capoeira emphasizes a strong sense of community and working well with others. It also teaches respect and responsibility.
While learning Capoeira you also learn how to speak Portuguese. All the names of the movements we do are in Portuguese as well as the songs we sing while playing Capoeira. Students also learn how to play the instruments used during the game of Capoeira.
Brazilian Dance
Let the beat of the drums move your body and soul! You will learn songs, rhythm, dances and culture.Classbegins with warm-up exercises that condition the body by developing strength, aerobic stamina, coordination, flexibility, and rhythmic awareness. Focusing on the high energy and powerful nature of Brazilian dance, you will receive an effective aerobic workout while at the same time targeting your major muscle groups. 
We will explore Afro Brazilian Dance, Puxada de Rede, Maculelê, a Dança Guerreira, Samba.
